Canada's queen of R&B thrilled her fans during an appearance at Mississauga's Metalworks recording studio on Monday night. Accompanied by her producer YoungPete Alexander and guitarist Andy Thompson, Jully Blackperformed songs from several albums. The hit list included Running , The Time Of Your Life and Seven-Day Fool , her first Top 10 hit in Canada. The sit-in live audience included many Metalworks students and the show was streamed live online. The Toronto singer's high energy had the in-studio audience laughing, clapping and singing along with her. Viewers, both in the studio and online, had the opportunity to ask questions about the music business and Black's music and career. The singer talked about the creative processes of producing a song and about writing lyrics for herself and other artists. Black has previously written lyrics for and worked with many well-known artists including Saukrates, Choclair, Kardinal Offishall, Destiny's Child and Sean Paul. "It's not a hobby anymore. We're story tellers, we're not just doing this for ourselves," said Black. YoungPete talked about his collaboration with Black. "I was excited about the music before I came to Canada," he said. The producer, who attended the Atlanta Institute of Music, told the younger members of the audience to stay in school if they want to succeed. Black, Alexander and Thompson greeted fans and signed autographs after the show.
